La Reine et Moi - Prologue
Prologue: A Woman of Grave Importance
"You may chisel a boy into shape, as you would a rock, or hammer him into it if he be of a better kind, as you would a piece of bronze. But you cannot hammer a girl into anything. She grows as a flower does." - John Ruskin
It is funny how one can remember certain experiences from the very earliest of childhood, when all else of an entire year has faded into the blackness of forgetfulness. I seriously doubt you could find anyone, myself included, who remembers much of their third year. But I do remember a little bit. I remember that I was three years old when I met the Madame du Pompadour.
